HELP US TO HELP YOU …
BE SAFE…

The ONLY point of contact between the road surface and your vehicle are your tyres. Worn tyres can impede the acceleration, braking and steering performance of a vehicle making your journey hazardous and dangerous for yourself, your family and other drivers around you. Here at Eurotyres we always offer free tyre pressure and tread depth checks to keep your mind at ease and your vehicle legal. Regular checks of your tyre pressure improves wear, performance and enhances tyre safety

TYRE AWARENESS

TYRE PRESSURE - Over-inflation increases overall tyre diameter, decreases the amount of tread in contact with the road, decreases sidewall flexibility and affects road-adhesion.

Under-inflation decreases overall tyre diameter, increases sidewall flexion, generates higher tyre operating temperatures and difficult vehicle handling characteristics.

Your brakes and steering will be adversely affected by under-inflated or over-inflated tyres. Excessive or uneven tyre wear may be caused by faults in the braking or suspension systems, or wheels which are out of alignment. These faults should be rectified as soon as possible. The correct amount of pressure in your tyres can actually lengthen the life of your tyres, improve vehicle safety and optimize fuel efficiency. We recommend tyre pressure checks once a fortnight when tyres are cold to get an accurate reading. The vehicle’s handbook provides guidance about how to look after your tyres and the required adjustments to tyre pressures which should be followed for safety.

WHEEL BALANCE

If a wheel is off balance you may feel the following:

  • Vibration in the steering wheel at certain highway speeds.
  • Vibration in the seat or floorboard at certain highway speeds.
  • Scalloped or cupped wear pattern on the tyres

Out-of-balance tyres can cause a car to vibrate at certain speeds, usually between 50 and 70 mph.. A tyre is out of balance when one section of the tyre is heavier than the others. 5 gram of imbalance on a front tyre is enough to cause a noticeable vibration in the steering wheel at about 60 mph. To balance a wheel, the technician mounts it on a balancing machine which spins the wheel to locate the heavier part. He will then compensate for the heavy part by attaching a zinc weight on the opposite side.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Wheel alignment greatly increases the life of your tyres by avoiding excessive wear on one side of the tread.(link to wheel alignment)

LEGALITIES

It's against the law to have:

  • Car tyres with tread worn to below 1.6mm;
  • A mix of radial and cross ply tyres;
  • under-inflated tyres;
  • Tyres with cuts, lumps, bulges or tears;
  • The wrong sort of tyre fitted to a vehicle.

Most tyres have tread wear indicators, usually six or more small ribs across the bottom of the main tread grooves. When the tread surface is level with these ribs, the tyre needs to be replaced.

Tyre tread depth and damage

When tyres become worn or damaged they must be replaced. There must be no damage to the tyre body - sidewalls or tread, no bulges or cuts and must have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm across the central ¾ of the breath of the tread and around the entire circumference. Avoid a fine being caught with illegal tyres on your vehicle can cost you up to £2500 per tyre and up to 3 penalty points on your license.
